Brief

A common complaint from users was that it was difficult to get data into OrgVue, the only method being via copy and paste. The challenge therefore was to present the user with an easy path for importing data and selecting the various properties that they would like to import. My task was to prototype and design a new version of the Admin App, in alignment with best practices and UI patterns used when developing OrgVue.

Process

The Admin app had initially been built without UX involvement, so although the functionality was there, there were some gaps with the user flow and some issues with red routes (see here for more detail). My task therefore was to map out current user flows and UI patterns, present any potential problems, and propose new solutions in wireframe format in collaboration with the developer and product owner. In order to maintain consistency for developers going forward, a design system was made in Sketch that detailed the behaviour and rules that each component should adhere to.

Outcomes

The Admin App has been released in beta form to existing customers, and the feedback so far has been very positive. Users love the intuitive drag and drop user interface and the fact that they are able to select what properties they are able to import into the application. This was not possible in the Flash version of OrgVue. User feedback on the step process UI has also been very positive. Success has been measured by holding internal task-based user tests that cover all the main features of the application.
